Have you heard about National Pet Shop Day? It’s taking place on Saturday July 12 and it’s the perfect opportunity to showcase just how brilliant our high street pet shops are!
Organised by Johnson Veterinary Products (an OATA member business), 2025 is the second year of National Pet Shop Day and it’s all about celebrating the ongoing contribution that pet shops and stores make to their local communities, championing their services, knowledge, and experience in supporting the nation’s pet owners.
We know that the vast majority of pet shops that sell animals sell fish – so let’s make sure aquatic shops show off what they do best on the day!
Pet shops are great places to buy some pets – like pet fish! They’re open to public scrutiny every day with visiting customers, they must be inspected and licensed by their local authority, they have to train their staff in the species they sell and they have to hand out care information with every animal that goes to their new home.
Good pet shops:
- Educate through the enthusiasm & knowledge of the staff who care about the animals they sell & want them to thrive in their new environment.
- Inspire the next generation of fishkeepers because watching beautiful fish swimming around is simply captivating and will encourage people into shops which sell them.
- Prevent impulse buying and can start conversations about the best way to keep fish.
So we are encouraging all aquatic retailers to sign up and take part in National Pet Sho Day on Saturday July 12. Find resources to download and ideas on how to promote it to your customers on the campaign website here. https://nationalpetshopday.com/
