We have updated our guides for OATA members on Product Safety, Electrical Goods and Fair Trading in partnership with our Primary Authority partner Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Councils.

These have all been updated in line with recent changes to legislation, particularly following our exit from the EU.

These guides are ‘must reads’ if you buy in equipment (eg filters, tanks and pumps) or products (from tank ornaments to food) and sell them to your customers. They cover everyday business issues such as selling on line, taking card payments and how you display your pricing. Reading the guides will tell you about the relevant legislation you need to know about as well as offer steps to take to ensure you comply with the law.

If you then encounter a problem or complaint you will then be able to demonstrate ‘due diligence’. Local regulators (eg trading standards) have to take into account the steps a business has taken to try to comply with the law – such as following the information in our three guides. Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Trading Standards has advised that by following the OATA guidance as part of your business planning process, you will be able to ensure your business is legally compliant.

These guides are available for free for OATA members. Find them in our Members Area here.
