The Government has announced details of the financial support it is giving to businesses to help with energy bills. You can find the announcement here.
It will be reviewing these plans in three months and says it will look at supporting the most vulnerable businesses. We believe that aquatic businesses supporting livestock have significant issues because you cannot turn off the energy needs without compromising animal welfare. So we want to gather evidence over the coming months to ensure we can put the case to government.
We now need to hear about the effects on aquatic businesses and we’d ask you to drop us an email to info@ornamentalfish.org. We’d really like some examples of the costs you’re facing – even after this support package – and what you think will happen in the future without continuing help. What will you do when the support package finishes in six months? Some real world practical examples would really help us when we communicate with the Defra teams because we do believe the aquatics part of the pet industry will be the hardest hit – along with reptiles – because of the significant energy needs of the businesses (retail and wholesale) which deal in livestock.
