GB Non Native Species Secretariat is looking into a number of plant and animal species  to see how invasive they may be in the UK, with a view to potentially limiting access to them. There are three species which may be of interest to our industry:

  • Chinese mystery snail (Bellamya chinensis)
  • Purple pitcher-plant (Sarracenia purpurea)
  • Chinese pond mussel (Sinanodonta woodiana)

We are now gathering information on these species, including how much they are sold within the UK ornamental aquatics industry. We would appreciate any information from businesses about their experiences with these – email info@ornamentalfish.org. We have previously issued advice on the Chinese mystery snail that these should not be sold for outdoor ponds. See the advice here.
