Several water companies have announced restrictions to hosepipes and sprinkler – known as Temporary Use Bans (TUB) – in August.

We’re pleased to see that they have all given exemptions to fish ponds to enable owners or pond consultants to continue to top up ponds to ensure the health and welfare of the fish. However, we would encourage everyone to be sensible about their water use when topping up.

  • From Friday 5 August, Southern Water’s TUB comes into force for its customers in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It says fishponds and fountains/water features which oxygenate fish ponds can be topped up to ensure the welfare of the fish. Find more information here.
  • From Friday 12 August, South East Water’s TUB comes into force for its customers in Kent and Sussex. Find out more in its FAQ section here
  • From Friday 19 August, Welsh Water’s TUB comes into force for its customers in Pembrokeshire. Find out more about its exemptions here.
  • From Wednesday 24 August, Thames Water’s TUB comes into force for all its customers. No.9 of its legal notice covers the filling of fish ponds. Find more information here.
  • From Friday 26 August, Yorkshire Water’s TUB comes into force for all its customers. Find out more about animals and fish exemptions here.
