The Be Plant Wise campaign is being relaunched during UK Plant Health Week and we’re urging all retailers and wholesalers which sell or supply aquatic plants to get behind the new look campaign and start spreading the message.

As autumn is upon us people will start tidying up gardens and ponds so it’s the perfect time to educate your customers about the right way to compost aquarium, pond and garden plants so that they don’t inadvertently spread to areas like native watercourses where they can cause problems.

The revamped Be Plant Wise campaign’s main messages are:

Compost with care

Dispose of your unwanted plants, roots, weeds, seeds, and seed heads responsibly.

Stop the spread

Keep your plants in your garden – don’t plant them, or allow them to grow, in the wild.

Know what you grow

Choose the right plants for  your garden, pond and water features.

We’d certainly urge retailers which sell aquatic plants to get behind the Be Plant Wise campaign and make sure you talk to customers about the right way to dispose of pond plants during any clear ups they are doing at this time of year.
